SEA WEEK 25.02 2017 - 05.03.2017 is the chance for New
Zealand to focus on a very important part of our everyday lives -
the ocean! This year the theme is "Toiora te Moana -
Toiora te Tangata" - 'Healthy Seas, Healthy People.'
The images above show the types of rubbish that can be found in the ocean. We see the effects of these items regularly on our rescued Sea Turtles. Often sea turtles mistake floating plastic bags as Jelly Fish, which is a favourite food source for these marine creatures.
Some Top Tips to decrease consumption of single use plastic products include
- Bring reusable bags when you shop
- Swap a one use plastic bottle for a refillable one
- Say NO when offer a plastic bag
- Buy items with less plastic packaging
- Use a travel mug rather than a takeaway cup!
