Ocean Tots Education

Early Childhood Education, Kindergarten and Preschools

Ocean Tots is an educational programme provided by SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium for early learning. Ocean Tots uses play to explore the underwater world for young children, fostering a love of discovery and investigation to help young students develop skills to set them up for a lifetime of successful learning.

We provide the choice of one of the Ocean Tots topics listed below to suit your groups’ requirements. The session involves 30-45 minutes of learning activities in our education room with one of our marine educators. Students are encouraged to explore and imagine through puppet shows and a show-and-tell of authentic animal artefacts. Your group will then embark on a self-directed visit around the highlights of the aquarium, getting hands-on in our rockpools and viewing sharks, stingrays, turtles, and penguins.

OCEAN TOTS TOPICS

During this session your marine educator will use a multi-media presentation (complete with videos and a sing-along!) coupled with authentic marine artefacts to engage and inspire your entire class.

By completing this session students will:

  • Learn about a range of marine animals and the difference between them.
  • Understand that animals act in different ways and why.
  • Be able to talk about how an underwater environment is different from other environments.
  • Build self-confidence by trying new things.
  • Help develop communication and language skills through listening and speaking.

What better way to engage your class than with a puppet-show? Join Jim as he explores the ocean and makes a few friends along the way. Coupled with a show-and-tell session with authentic marine artefacts, this is an engaging, fun and informative session your students will love!

By completing this session students will:

  • Learn about a range of marine animals and the special features of these animals.
  • Be able to identify different marine animals.
  • Build self-confidence through trying new thing.
  • Help develop communication and language skills through listening and speaking.
  • Understand that there are different marine environments and that different animals live in these.

During this session students will take a closer look at rock pools and the animals that live there. By using a multi-media presentation, interactive activities as well as authentic marine artefacts – students will never look at the rocky shore the same way again!

By completing this session students will:

  • Be able to identify the rocky shore ecosystem.
  • Be able to recognise and identify some of the animals that live at the rocky shore.
  • Understand some of the threats faced by animals living on the rocky shore.
  • Build self-confidence by trying new things.
  • Help develop communication and language skills through listening and speaking.
  • Develop problem-solving skills through play.
