Short Tail Stingrays
Short-tail stingray or smooth stingray is a common species of stingray in the family Dasyatidae. It is often seen in southern Africa, Australia and New Zealand. We have three Short-tail stingrays at Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s: Molly, Penny and Barbara (Barb’s for short). Barb’s is the biggest creature here at Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s and is estimated to weight over 200kgs!
The New Zealand Eagle Ray is a cartilaginous fish that gets its name from resembling an Eagle in flight. Eagle Rays can be found near bays, estuaries and near rocky reefs. They grow to about 80cm and can be found around the North Island and Southern parts of the South Island of New Zealand.
